Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,130 to £45,413 with potential progression once in post to £48,149

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme and/or specific research project
Role Summary
A fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available within the group of Dr Yongjing Wang in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham to work on the £1.5M EPSRC project RoboTriage: https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=EP%2FZ534080%2F1
Work within specified research grants and projects and contribute to writing bids
Operate within area of specialism
Analyse and interpret research findings and results
Contribute to generating funding
Contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar
Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below
Generate high-quality research outputs in the area of industrial robotics and informatics
Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
Mentor and lead junior researchers (New PhDs, MEng and BEng students)
Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if required
Contribute to writing bids for research funding
Analyse and interpret data
Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
Undertake management/administration arising from research
Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
Person Specification
First degree in science or engineering discipline relevant to the project or equivalent experience
Hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in area relevant to the project
Interdisciplinary research experience linked to understanding complex social, economic and technical challenges
High level analytical capability
Ability to communicate complex information clearly
Experienced in public engagement and workshop organisation
Track record of academic publications, proven delivery of reports and papers that are recognised within the field of industrial robotics or mechatronic systems
Proven ability to work both under guidance as part of a team, but also independently
