Full time starting salary is normally in the range £46,735 to £55,755 with potential progression once in post to £62,728

The Clinical Immunology Services (CIS) at the University of Birmingham offers an extensive range of immunological and haematoncology tests, ensuring the highest quality of service with prompt and accurate results. As an ISO 15189 UKAS-accredited provider, we engage in clinical trials and bespoke research projects, focusing on immunodeficiency, immunogenicity, blood cancer, and the development of novel immunodiagnostic tests. Our commitment to excellence and innovation positions us at the forefront of clinical immunology.
Role Summary
As the General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability of the CIS laboratory. You will provide inspiring leadership to our dedicated team, ensuring high-quality service delivery in line with NHS, University, and ISO 15189 standards. Your role will involve developing and implementing long-term strategies, managing resources, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and inspire laboratory staff, setting and maintaining clear standards for quality and efficiency.
Oversee the effective operation of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Develop and implement strategic plans to align with institutional objectives.
Manage financial resources, including budgeting, funding, and financial performance.
Foster relationships with NHS bodies, university faculties, research partners, and suppliers.
Support business development initiatives and explore opportunities for growth and innovation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Degree level education or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven experience in managing large teams and complex projects.
Financial acumen and experience in budget management.
Strong IT skills and experience with system improvements.
