About Hinkley Point C
The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.
Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, Hinkley Point C will make a major contribution to the UKs move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two EPR reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, or 600 million tonnes over its 60-year lifespan.
What you’ll be doing
As a/an Works Permit Engineer, you will have the following accountabilities:

- Ensure appropriate procedures are established and maintained for all work done under the permit-to-work system.

- To help in the preparation of permits, and be responsible for the supervision and performance of the work are identified and competent.

- Ensure sufficient resources are provided to enable the permit-to-work system to be correctly implemented and run.

- Maintain a register of permits and advise holders to renew.

- Maintain a register of Method Statements in use and advise holders when a periodic review is required.

- Maintain a register of permit acceptors and isolating authorities.

- Manage, audit and monitor the permit to work system, to ensure compliance with company and client’s procedures and processes.

- Control and initiate site audits to ensure compliance with the safe system of work.

- Ensures copies of permits, or records of their issue, are kept for a specified period to enable auditing or incident investigation.

- Instruct relevant authorised personnel to organise supplementary permits and isolation certificates such as mechanical, electrical, confined space etc. in preparation for start of works.
Who we’re looking for
You will have the following:
-
- Mechanical or electrical degree or similar qualification where it can be demonstrated that safety management was a core module of that qualification

- Working toward a NEBOSH
-
- Engineering or process background required.

- Conversant with all related legislation, codes and standards.

- Competent in making presentations and leading meetings at Director and Senior Management level

- Thorough knowledge of CDM regulations

- Able to gain a high level security clearance.(SC Clearance)
