Where Do I Start My Job Search?

Apprenticeships.

An apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to earn a real wage, gain practical experience and learn new skills whilst working towards a qualification. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 and available in almost every career you can think of.

Online Job Boards.

Finding jobs online has never been easier. There are a huge amount of job search sites available online, many of which can be accessed from your smartphone. There are general and specialist sites depending on the career you are looking for. These sites often require you to create an account with a CV so make sure you have one ready.  Some of the more popular ones including our very own Evenfields Careers are:

evenfieldscareers.co.uk | indeed.co.uk | totaljobs.co.uk | monster.co.uk

Job Fairs.

Job Fairs are normally held at local schools, colleges, town halls and hotels etc. You can find their details in local newspapers or online using Eventbrite. Or you can simply Google “job fairs in Birmingham” to find out what’s available locally. This is an opportunity to meet employers face-to-face and ask them questions. A good tip here is to prepare some of the questions you’d like to ask in advance. There will be lots of employers under one roof so you’ll have plenty of choice and opportunities.

Family and Friends.

Sometimes, ‘who you know’ can be just as important as ‘what you know’. Talk to your family and friends about the type of jobs you are looking for and see if they can help. A lot of people hear of jobs through word of mouth – some jobs are never even advertised – so having a group of people who can put in a good word for you is invaluable.
